How Litmu handles scan and app data.

This policy explains what Litmu processes to provide AI food label analysis and what remains local to your device.

Last updated: June 3, 2026

Overview

Litmu analyzes visible food label information so the app can show HENI health-minute scoring, nutrition drivers, additives, personal alerts, AI Summary, current-scan chat, local history, Daily Impact, and Monthly Insights.

Information processed

Label images and extracted food data

When you start an AI analysis, the app sends the selected label image to the Litmu API for extraction. The result can include product name, brand, serving size, nutrition values, ingredients, additive details, ingredient insights, and AI summaries.

Local scan history

Scan history, favorites, daily status labels, and saved result payloads are stored locally on your device. Litmu does not currently provide cloud sync for scan history.

Personal settings

If you add allergens, diet avoidances, health focus, or a personal note, the app uses those settings to highlight relevant alerts and result details.

Authentication and entitlement data

Litmu uses Firebase anonymous authentication and App Check to issue short-lived API sessions. Subscription entitlement status is handled through RevenueCat and the App Store.

Analytics and usage data

Litmu sends product interaction and usage analytics to PostHog, including events such as scans, result views, paywall views, and subscription actions. API usage logs support quota enforcement and service reliability.

How information is used

Provide scan results

Information is used to extract label data, compute local scoring, display product intelligence, generate additive and ingredient explanations, and answer current-scan chat questions.

Maintain quota and subscriptions

Litmu uses API sessions, quota snapshots, and entitlement checks to apply Free and Pro monthly limits and unlock Pro features.

Improve reliability

Analytics and API logs help identify failures, measure feature usage, and monitor service health.

Third-party services

AI processing

Litmu uses AI services through its API to extract label data and generate explanations. Do not scan labels that include information you do not want processed by AI services.

Firebase, RevenueCat, App Store, and PostHog

Litmu uses Firebase for anonymous authentication and App Check, RevenueCat and the App Store for subscriptions, and PostHog for product analytics.

Your choices

Delete local history

You can delete saved scans in the app. Because scan history is local, deleting app data or removing the app can also remove locally stored history.

Manage subscriptions

You can manage or cancel Litmu Pro through your Apple account subscription settings.

Important limits

Litmu is preparing for App Store release and its data practices may change as features evolve. This policy will be updated when product behavior or third-party processing changes.
